Drug yacht loaded with cocaine intercepted near Canaries

The crew of a yacht loaded with cocaine set the vessel on fire after being intercepted by customs agents 50 miles from the Canaries last week.

Two crew members of French and Dutch origin have been arrested, one of whom had suffered serious burns in the fire.

Although the yacht sank and most of its cargo was lost, agents managed to retrieve 25 kgs of cocaine. The yacht, a sloop named Lona was discovered off the coast of Tenerife, from where it would transport drugs to the coast with light Zodiac-style inflatables.
