A 45-year-old woman drowned yesterday at Playa de las Cucharas, the main beach in Costa Teguise.
The woman was taken out of the water at around 2.30 pm, in cardiac arrest. Lifesavers stationed on the beach attempted to resuscitate her until paramedics arrived and took over. A doctor and nurse from the Costa Teguise health centre also attended the scene along with local police and Guardia Civil officers.
However, it proved impossible to revive the victim. Police then undertook the legal proceedings required to report a death.
It is the second drowning of this week, following the death of a 70-year-old man at Playa Guacimeta on Tuesday.
