A dead angel shark was found dead by bathers at Playa de Jablillo in Costa Teguise on Sunday.
The shark was around a metre in length and was discovered at 2.30 in the afternoon. Experts will examine the fish to try and ascertain how it died. The Canaries is one of the few remaining places where angel sharks can frequently be observed, and the species is protected by law.
Angel sharks are not unknown at Playa Jablillo, where they occasionally swim over the rocky reef into the lagoon at high tide and are then trapped as the tide goes out.
