Cabildo workers have been working to install crash barriers at the roadside of the LZ-35 in order to stop people parking to visit Las Grietas.
Hardly ever visited just a few years ago, the strange, eroded rock formations on the side of Montaña Blanca have been turned into a tourist attraction by coverage on social media. This has caused worries about road safety, safety of visitors and the protection of the Las Grietas area.
Last week another tourist had to be evacuated from the area by emergency services after a fall, while signposts asking visitors to respect the area have been vandalised.
Ditches and “No Parking” signs installed by Tías Ayuntamiento, who wish to limit access to a footpath from the La Candelaria area of Tías, have failed to halt the problems.
