In the first five months of the year, the Canary Islands registered 56 organ donors which has allowed for 106 successful transplants.
According to the Canarian Ministry for Health, a total of 56 organ donors have been registered in the first five months of 2024 – 52 from deceased donors and 4 from living donors. This figure represents an increase of 19.15% compared to the first five months of 2023.
The organ donations have resulted in 79 kidney transplants, 2 pancreatic transplants, 8 liver transplants, 10 heart transplants and 7 lung transplants.
Thanks to the 56 donors, the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) hospitals have performed 106 successful transplants so far this year, an increase of 29% compared to the same period in 2023.
