All regional Covid restrictions will be suspended from Thursday, it was announced yesterday. National restrictions such as mask-wearing indoors, social distancing and travel forms will remain for the time being.

Canarian President Ángel Victor Torres announced the end of all regional restrictions at a parliamentary meeting yesterday. However, he was quick to point out that the pandemic was not over, and the restrictions may be reintroduced if the situation “gets worse” in the future.

This is the final step in the de-escalation process that the Canarian Government commenced several weeks ago. Most restrictions have already been relaxed or abolished, and

The abolition of remaining restrictions means that there are no limits on gatherings, full capacity is permitted in all activities, dancing is once more allowed and fiestas can take place as normal.

However, the change does not apply to mask wearing or the completion of travel forms, restrictions which are imposed by the national government and which are beyond the powers of regional governments. Spain’s health ministry has announced that it intends to end the mask rules soon, but has not specified a date.

The health ministry announced yesterday that positive Covid cases would no longer have to observe quarantine if they have no symptoms. Only those classed as “vulnerable” will be required to take PCR tests, as the health services move towards a new system of monitoring cases that does not require the registration of every case.

Those testing positive may contact their doctor, call the Covid helpline on 900 112 061, or report the result on the MiAutoTestCovid site, and they will then be instructed on what to do by a health professional.
