Lanzarote’s Cabildo has suspended hunting in Haría after the poisoning of several animals.
At least six dogs and several cats have died after ingesting poison in areas around Yé, Máguez and Guinate.
The Cabildo’s Hunting Councillor, Samuel Martín, said “We are involving the Guardia Civil, Seprona, local police, environmental agents from the Cabildo and the hunting association to get to the bottom of these appalling events.”
Martín also warned local residents to be cautious when walking their pets in the area.
The hunting season for rabbits began on 3rd August on Lanzarote, and will close on 26th October. Rabbit hunting is only permitted with ferrets, dogs and falcons in authorised zones on Thursdays and Sundays.
Shooting with a gundog and falconry for partridges and pigeons is permitted on five Sundays from September 28th to October 26th.
