This Monday, the Lanzarote Cabildo and the Canarian Government signed an agreement for plans to modernise, improve and increase the competitiveness of Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise.

The signing of the agreement was attended by the President of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, the Canarian Government’s Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, Manuel Miranda; Lanzarote Cabildo’s Minister of Territorial Policy, Jesús Machín; and the Director General of Territorial Policy of the Regional Executive, Onán Cruz.

The agreement establishes that the Cabildo will assume the drafting of the modernisation plan for both resorts.

Betancort stated that, “Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise are two fundamental engines of the island’s economy, and we could not afford to keep waiting. Now, with the backing of the Canarian Government, Lanzarote is setting out with determination”.

Councillor, Manuel Miranda, highlighted “the shared political will between the Canarian Government and the Lanzarote Cabildo to update and modernise the urban planning of tourist destinations”. Miranda recalled that, “we have been working together for months to reach this starting point towards a new, more competitive and orderly tourism model. Now the countdown begins to turn these plans into a reality”.

The modernisation plans will allow for the renovation of hotel and non-hotel infrastructure, commercial areas and public facilities, while promoting an improvement in the attractiveness and management of tourist areas.
