Lanzarote’s Cabildo will not construct carparks in Uga and Mancha Blanca to relieve the pressure on Timanfaya, where large queues continue to be a problem.
The proposal by Socialist councillor Benjamin Perdomo was rejected by the ruling group. Tourist councillor Ángel Vázquez said that “The conditions that would make these car parks work do not exist.”
“We’d need 12 to 15 buses an hour to shuttle passengers from the carparks to Timanfaya. Currently we don’t have that many, and it would be unfair to divert buses that have been paid for by several councils to one place.”
Vázquez claimed that he was confident that the new policy of buying online tickets to Timanfaya, with pre-arranged times, would resolve the problem of long queues.
