Tonight is La Noche de San Juan – St John’s Eve – a midsummer fiesta that will be celebrated all over Lanzarote with bonfires and barbecues on which sweetcorn is roasted.
Haría’s celebrations will start with a concert at 9pm, after which the Devils of Haría will perfom their spectacular Fire Dance and light the bonfire. La Santa and Soo will also celebrate their patron saint tonight and tomorrow.
In Puerto del Carmen the bonfire will take place at Calle Bajamar (near Playa Chica), with music beginning from 8.30 pm. Arrecife will celebrate with a concert and bonfire in the Parque Islas Canarias from 6pm, and the bonfire will be lit at 9pm.
In Playa Blanca, celebrations will occur in the Plaza de Carmen from 7.30pm, while Playa Honda will host DJs and bands from 10.30pm, following a latin percussion workshop at 8pm.
The burning of an effigy of “Don Facundo” will also take place in Punta Mujeres, and many more private and family events will take place around the island.
