Bathers rescued at Playa Chica

Lifesavers at Playa Chica yesterday rescued two bathers who were trying to retrieve an inflatable mattress from the sea.

A call to the emergency services at 12.50 led to the deployment of police, firemen, Guardia Civil and a rescue helicopter. However, when the firemen arrived, they found that the lifesavers on duty had managed to rescue the bathers.

Rough weather has led to a re-alert being issued for all the Canary Islands, with the government advising citizens to exercise caution when approaching the sea.
