Last Friday, the Mayor of Arrecife marked the start of the festive period in the capital with the official switch-on of the Christmas lights.

“This year is more special than ever, because since I have been mayor, I have had the objective that all festivities should reach all the neighbourhoods of Arrecife”, stated the Mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez.

The Ayuntamiento installed approximately 6,000 metres of LED garlands that will adorn the streets of the capital, as well as 900 ornamental arches.

Additionally, the capital is full of trees and illuminated Christmas figures throughout.

“I invite you all to stroll through the streets and enjoy the lighting that we have installed for you”, added the Mayor.

At the switch-on event, after the opening speech, the Parque Ramírez Cerdá hosted performances from the Orquesta Clásica de Lanzarote quartet, the soprano singer María Candelaria Hernández, the children’s choir of CEIP Antonio Zerolo, and the Fide Parrilla Dance School.

The highlights of the event came with famous artist Melody, who sang some of her best-known songs as well as new musical works.
