The No 22 bus route from Arrecife to the airport has gained 12,000 passengers in just five months after adopting a more circular route, the Cabildo’s transport councillor Domingo Cejas has announced.
The service used to depart from the interchange near Playa Reducto, but this was changed to the central bus station in February, allowing passengers heading to the airport from several other parts of the island to change buses quickly and easily.
On its return route the service stops at the Interchange and several stops on Arrecife’s seafront before returning to the bus station.
The 20-minute route runs from 5.30 am to 11.15 pm and is mainly used by workers at the César Manrique Airport. The airport is one of the main employers on the island, and there have been complaints about accessibility and lack of parking for several years.
