On Saturday 19th February, the Suffragan Bishop of the Anglican Diocese in Europe, Dr David Hamid, visited Tias to officially bless the Chaplaincy House and Centre on Camino de las Cuestas.

Greeted by the Chaplain, Canon Stan Evans and his wife Rosemary, together with the officers and people of the Chaplaincy – Bishop David paid tribute to the commitment and resourcefulness of all who had brought this project to fruition – in spite of the pandemic.
Bishop David was accompanied by his wife, Dr Colleen, and they shared in a ‘bring and share’ lunch provided by the people.
On Sunday 20th, Bishop David was the celebrant at a Eucharist in the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in the old harbour, where a large congregation witnessed the Confirmation of Lesley Barber, Sunny Schwarz and Dawn Rutherford (from our neighbouring Chaplaincy in Tenerife North).
Also attending were the Pastor of the Norwegian Church, Jens-Petter Johnsen, and Revd Rachel Ganney from the Tenerife North Chaplaincy team.
Sadly, due to illness, the Lutheran Pastor Mechthild Lattorff had to cancel, and of course the Catholic Parish Priest is still recovering from his accident and therefore couldn’t join.
Following a light lunch and fellowship at the Asian Veradero Restaurant opposite the church, Bishop David travelled to Playa Blanca where he was Celebrant at a Mass at 5.00pm.
