70-year-old woman rescued after fall in Barranco

A 70-year-old German woman was rescued by helicopter after suffering a fall in the Barranco de Curbelo near Tabayesco yesterday.

Emergency services received a call just before midday and were guided to the victim by Haría Local Police. As the location was difficult to access, an emergency helicopter was called to evacuate the hiker to the airport, from where she was transferred to hospital.

The plants and flowers that have burst forth after the winter rains have seen many more walkers venturing into Lanzarote’s rural areas, such as the barrancos of the north.
