Indian Delights celebrates half a decade in business this August, and, if you know the restaurant, you’ll know that the anniversary is going to be celebrated in glorious fashion. Owners Ramesh and Sara Saraswati look at the past five years and to the future.

There’s a real buzz around Lanzarote’s holiday resorts, with new restaurants and businesses opening every month for holidaymakers to try. It’s also very competitive – meaning that a restaurant celebrating its fifth anniversary is very special indeed.

Another year has passed, and you will soon be celebrating 5 years of business. How has the past year been?

Ramesh: It has been good. There are more and more people coming to Lanzarote every month and also to our restaurant.

We see a lot of new faces now, but also many of the same faces that visit us when they come on holiday or locals that come regularly. It’s nice to see the restaurant so busy at night.

Sara: We have to manage our time well now, between the two of us, here and at our second restaurant Indian Gourmet.

Five years in business for a restaurant isn’t easy. What do you think has kept diners coming back?

Ramesh: It’s hard to say without asking each person! I think it is our attention to detail- the little things that we do to make the experience what it is. We’re not a run-of-the-mill Indian restaurant.

We open our doors at 12 noon, but we are working in the kitchen before that – preparing the base gravies, marinating meats and vegetables, and much more. Our work doesn’t start when we open our doors, and it doesn’t end when we close our doors either!

Sara: It is a lot of work, but it is worth it when you see people smiling after taking their first bite.

It isn’t just the food, though, is it? You have hosted many events of the years too.

Ramesh: Yes, we always celebrate when we can. It is a lot of work to decorate the restaurant, prepare new menus for events, and to dress traditionally when it calls for it. However, it is a lot of fun and that makes it all worth it.

We celebrate it all – New Year, Valentine’s Day, Diwali, Christmas, and the restaurant’s anniversary each year of course.

Do you have any messages for your customers?

Sara: Just a thank you. Thank you for the support, reviews, and recommendations over the years. We couldn’t have done any of this without you. Our customers make this worthwhile, we’re not satisfied unless they are.

Are you doing anything special for your 5-year anniversary?

Ramesh: Of course – we have celebrated the past four years – this time will be very special. We have a few ideas at the moment and we’re going to celebrate it in style as we always have done. Check the Indian Delights Playa Blanca Facebook page for event details.

You have another anniversary coming up soon.

Sara: Yes, the one-year anniversary at Indian Gourmet in September. Things are going well since we opened, and we have lots of people coming in the mornings for breakfast as well as at nighttime of course. We have some good ideas to celebrate its anniversary…

We will put the details on our Indian Gourmet Restaurant and Lounge Bar Facebook page.
