46 people have drowned in the Canaries so far this year, seven of them on Lanzarote.
The figures are higher than those in the corresponding period of the last two years.
68% of the victims were foreigners, including three from Germany, two from Poland and one each from Britain and Ireland.
Three quarters pf the casualties were male, and 67% were bathers, with the remainer consisting of fishermen, divers and other watersports. 95% of bathers had entered the water in “adverse water conditions”.
