One of the most loved and popular restaurants in Playa Blanca celebrates its fourth birthday this August. The Indian Delights restaurant opened in the midst of a global pandemic in 2020 and has roared back, becoming one of the highest rated Indian restaurants in the sunny southern resort. We chat with owners Ramesh and Sara Saraswati about the past four years and about their exciting new adventure.

Every year we sit down with Indian Delights owners Ramesh and Sara to talk about the restaurant and how the past year has been. However, this year is a little different, the restaurant continues to go from strength to strength as per usual… but there’s a new adventure on the horizon for Ramesh and Sara.

Ramesh, another year has passed, and you will soon be celebrating Indian Delights’ fourth birthday. How has business been?

Our business has been good, even better than the last year.

The restaurant has been popular as always and we have been almost fully booked every night of the week. It’s nice to see but what is even nicer is the returning faces, the compliments to the chefs and seeing our regular visitors trying something new.

It’s a joy to see and it’s what we got into the restaurant business for – the love of food and our desire to share Indian cuisine with our diners.

I would say most of our customers know Sara and me by name. They always come to the restaurant asking for us or for their favourite waiter and we love that. It’s a great compliment.

Business has been good, and you two have been as busy as ever. It’s about to get busier, though, isn’t it?

Ramesh: It is. We love what we do, and we’re pleased to announce that we are opening a new Indian restaurant in Playa Blanca. It is located on the outside of the Playa Blanca Business Centre on Calle Las Palmas, near the Hotel Mirador Papagayo.

It is in a good location with stunning views of the Los Ajaches mountains, has outside covered seating as well as indoor seating, and plenty of parking spaces nearby for our diners.

Sara: We are going to be very busy with the opening of the new restaurant, but we are also very excited for this.

That sounds brilliant. What will the new restaurant be called?

Sara: The name of the new restaurant is “Indian Gourmet”. The menu will feature all of the very popular items that diners love but it will also feature new specials from north, south, west and east India.

Ramesh: What we love most about Indian Delights, and soon the new restaurant, is showing diners new foods, new spices, and new flavours. We take time to explain each dish and its preparation. With these new menu specials from each region of India we can show different types of Indian dishes.

And what can diners expect?

Ramesh: They can expect the same quality, time and effort that we put into every dish at Indian Delights. Running an Indian restaurant isn’t easy. It takes a lot of time and preparation before the restaurant even opens.

For hours we are preparing the base gravies for the different curries, the marination for the meats as well as everything else. But we love it – everything that we do is for the love of food and seeing diners enjoy their meals.

Sara: In the beginning we will split our time between the two restaurants, sometimes Ramesh will be at Indian Gourmet and I will be here, and other times it will be the other way around.

Back to Indian Delights, do you have any messages for your customers?

A huge thank you. Thank you for supporting us throughout the four years and thank you for all of the positive reviews and recommendations. We wouldn’t be open now if it wasn’t for our wonderful customers both new and returning. We aren’t satisfied unless they are!

Are you doing anything special for the anniversary?

Absolutely. We have a few ideas in mind. Whatever we do we are going to do it in style and with lots of fun, as we have done in previous years. We will announce more details on our Facebook page “Indian Delights Lanzarote”.

Thanks Ramesh and Sara, and good luck with the new restaurant.
