Lanzarote tourists take tourist tax survey

Three out of four tourists to Lanzarote would accept a tourist tax, according to the latest survey of tourist spending by the Canarian Institute of Statistics.

76.5% of tourists surveyed in the second quarter (April to June) said they’d be willing to pay a tourist tax.

Of those who were unwilling to pay a tax, 29.3% of Irish tourists said they would be discouraged by a tourist tax. Ireland is Lanzarote’s most faithful tourist market. 27.5% of Spanish tourists opposed a tax.

The majority of tourists would be willing to pay a tourist tax of between €1 and €3 a day, with the money to be used to protect the environment and improve the quality of life on the Canaries.
