Young woman rescued at Arrecife pier

Firefighters took part in the rescue of a young woman who had fallen on the breakwater of Arrecife’s main pier yesterday.

Emergency services were alerted at around 8pm and attended the scene, where paramedics established that the young woman had broken her leg.

Once first aid had been administered, firefighters evacuated the victim from the breakwater and transferred her to waiting ambulance, which took her to hospital.

 Most breakwaters in Lanzarote are made of large boulders or concrete blocks that can become very slippery when wet.
