Yonathan has been named Arrecife Mayor after the news came that Astrid Pérez stood down after being elected as the President of the Canarian Parliament last month. De León came third on the electoral list for his party in Arrecife.
In his speech, De León thanked Pérez “for the opportunity to work at her side for the past four years” and his “colleagues at Partido Popular and Coalición Canaria for the confidence and support.”.
He assured that he will “continue working to move the capital forward” and that he will be a mayor “close to the citizens”, spending “a long time in the streets to build the friendly and beautiful Arrecife that we all dream of.”.
