The yellow heat warning for today has been extended until tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. The warning applies to all the Canaries and extends from 10 am in the morning to 8 pm at night today (Friday) and Saturday.
In the Canaries, a yellow heat warning is issued when temperatures are forecast to exceed 34 degrees centigrade. The official advice for a yellow warning is that there is no risk to the general population from high temperatures, but that certain activities may be affected. All yellow weather warnings notify the public to keep an eye on the weather in case a higher warning level is announced.
Weather warnings are usually accompanied by advice from regional health services to protect vulnerable persons (the elderly, babies, pregnant women, obese, invalids etc), as well as special recommendations for others likely to be affected, such as athletes, hikers and employers.
An orange warning (serious risk to the population) is issued at 37 degrees and a red warning (extreme risk) at 40 degrees.
