Spain’s weather agency, AEMET, has issued yellow heat alerts for Sunday the 24th and Monday the 25th of May.  The alerts are in place between 11 am and 8 pm on both days.

Maximum temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius are forecast during the heatwave, and it will be hottest in inland and southern-facing areas.  The light calima (airborne dust) that arrived on Wednesday is likely to continue.

The heatwave will coincide with a shift of wind direction from the prevailing northern alisio to a light south-eastern wind.

This is the first heat alert of the year. Citizens are advised to stay hydrated, think twice about strenuous open-air activities and take special care of children, the elderly, and pets.
