Unión Sur Yaiza almost achieved an epic fightback against CD Móstoles at the Municipal El Soto in Madrid last month.
The southerners pulled two goals back, courtesy of Diego Casoppero and Emiliano Trovento, in the final stretch of the game, but could not surmount the three-goal lead from Móstoles, but Yaiza ran out of time to equalize and went to their sixth defeat in a row.
The beginning of the match was fairly level, with no side clearly dominating in the match and neither team wanting to make mistakes. Pablo Margallo had the first chance for Unión Sur Yaiza, with a shot that went wide.
After the half hour mark, CD Móstoles scored twice. In the 33rd minute, Guerrero shot to beat Nauzet. Just five minutes later, Victor headed in a corner to make it two. Nauzet did well to save a one-on-one with Ricoy and prevent a third.
In the second half, with Enrique Castaño returning to the pitch, Unión Sur Yaiza took the game to Móstoles in search of closing the gap.
The home side limited itself to defending and goalkeeper Brea became a key player, making several important saves. Then, with three minutes left of normal time, Ricoy increased the gap to three goals.
Unión Sur Yaiza closed the gap in the 90th minute, with a cross shot from Diego Casopero that beat Brea. And in the 93rd minute, Emiliano Trovento hooked a ball in at the edge of the area to make it two for his team. But it just wasn’t enough, and the final whistle saved Móstoles from embarrassment.
Unión Sur Yaiza are now six points adrift in the relegation zone and will have to improve quickly to meet their ambition of surviving their first season in Spain’s Second Federation. It’s not all doom and gloom, however – the Greens have shown spirit, and although they’ve lost their last five games, none of them have been humiliating defeats.
In March, Yaiza host UD Melilla from Spain’s North African enclave, Talavera from Toledo and UD Sanse from Madrid, with tough trips to league-leaders Guadalajara and Caceres.
