Yaiza Ayuntamiento has started replacing ageing streetlights along Calle Limones, one of the busiest streets in Playa Blanca, as part of its ongoing programme to modernise public infrastructure and improve energy efficiency.

The work began last Thursday and involved the installation of around 45 new LED lighting units to replace the existing deteriorated fixtures. The project is being funded entirely by the municipality, with an investment of almost €27,000.

According to the council, the upgrade was undertaken following requests from local business owners and is expected to improve visibility, safety, and energy performance in the popular shopping district.

The initiative forms part of a wider programme of lighting improvements already completed in areas including Castillo del Águila and San Marcial del Rubicón. It also complements future works planned within the wider renovation of Avenida de Papagayo, where the first phase is currently underway.

Mayor Óscar Noda said the project delivers multiple benefits, noting that modernising lighting infrastructure not only reduces energy consumption but also improves public safety and enhances the appearance of Playa Blanca’s main tourist and commercial centre.
