Sergeant Gloria Moreno, the head of the Guardia Civil’s nature protection wing Seprona on Lanzarote, has received a National Gold Award in Madrid for her commitment to animal welfare.

The award was presented as part of the VII Awards for Police Services for Animal Protection, organized by Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights and Consumer Affairs.

“The effective application of animal protection laws largely depends on prepared, committed, and brave professionals. Gloria Moreno embodies these values and is an example for new generations of agents,” said a representative of the Professional Animal Defence Association (PRODA) at the ceremony.

Gloria Moreno has been a fierce and committed defender of Lanzarote’s wildlife and nature for several years, in a career that has occasionally brought her into conflict with senior members of her own professional body.
