More than 200 performers from Poland, Paraguay, Mexico and the Canary Islands are taking part in the third edition of the El Mundo en Lanzarote International Performing Arts Festival, which runs until 16 August.
This year’s programme features free performances, workshops and parades in Arrecife and Teguise, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to experience a variety of international and Canarian cultural traditions.
Programme highlights
The festival opened on 11 August with a parade along the Costa Teguise seafront, followed by an opening performance at the Las Cucharas Amphitheatre.
Events continue with an intercultural gathering and art workshop in Parque Islas Canarias in Arrecife, while a Canarian folklore workshop will be held at the Nuevo Centro Cívico in Costa Teguise on 14 August. Later that day, the festival will form part of Arrecife’s San Ginés celebrations with a performance at José Ramírez Cerdá Park following the official opening proclamation.
On 15 August, performers will parade through central Arrecife from Plaza de la Constitución to Plaza de Las Palmas.
The festival concludes on 16 August with events in the historic town of Teguise before a final parade through Arrecife along Avenida Coll and Avenida de La Marina, ending with a closing performance at Parque José Ramírez Cerdá.
International and local performers
Among the international groups taking part are Poland’s Song and Dance Ensemble Raciborzanie, Mexico’s Compañía Raíces del Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Paraguay Rekove.
They will be joined by a range of Lanzarote-based performers, including the Parranda Marinera de Buches, Agrupación Cultural Musical Güerma, and local dance and theatre groups representing a variety of cultural traditions.
