New data from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) reveals that Yaiza was the municipality where tourists spent the most money per day during their stay in the Canary Islands in 2025.

According to the Tourist Expenditure Survey, visitors to Yaiza splashed out an average of €208 daily, leading the ranking of tourist municipalities.

Following closely behind Yaiza were Adeje in Tenerife, with an average daily expenditure of €207, and San Bartolomé de Tirajana in Gran Canaria, where tourists spent €190 per day. These figures are part of the latest annual series from ISTAC, which provides a detailed breakdown of spending patterns across the islands.

The survey also highlights the spending habits of different nationalities. Tourists from the United Kingdom had the highest average daily expenditure overall, at €191. Among them, those staying in Adeje proved the biggest spenders, with a daily average of €211.

German tourists, meanwhile, averaged €170 per day across the Canary Islands, with Adeje again emerging as the top municipality for their expenditure, where daily spending exceeded €189. For Spanish tourists, the average daily spend was €156, with Adeje once more leading the pack at €199 per tourist per day.

The ISTAC data also sheds light on trip organisation. More than half of all tourists – 53.6 per cent – booked their holidays to the Canary Islands over three months in advance. However, last-minute planning was notable in some urban areas. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 41 per cent of visitors booked less than a month before arrival, while in Arrecife, Lanzarote’s capital, 34 per cent did the same.

This statistical operation offers valuable insights into the characteristics of tourists visiting the Canary Islands, including their reasons for travel and how they organise their trips. For Lanzarote, Yaiza’s leading position underscores its appeal as a premium destination, attracting visitors willing to spend generously during their stay.
