Yaiza’s Mayor Oscar Noda announced the latest developments in the saga of Playa Blanca’s sports centre yesterday.
Noda said that the works on the centre were 95% complete but had been paralysed due to the inability of the constructor, Levantina, Inginiería y Construcción, to “restructure their debt.”
Noda confirmed that the company had entered bankruptcy proceedings and stated that Yaiza had contracted assessors to advise on how to cancel the contract and complete the works itself.
Noda said that “we have always maintained our desire and commitment to finish the work and open the Pavilion. We have reserved 700,000 euros from the municipal budget for its direct management to cover cleaning, maintenance, administration and monitoring services, and we even have an advanced draft of the public prices for the use of the facility. It is the fastest way to put the Pavilion into operation.”
