Yaiza Ayuntamiento has announced a €1.4 million project to comprehensively refurbish the entrance to Playa Blanca via the Femés road.
The substantial investment will fund a series of improvements along the stretch between the roundabout and the Marcastell residential area. Key actions include full resurfacing of the road, widening the carriageway, constructing a dedicated cycle lane, and installing new public lighting and road signage.
Mayor Óscar Noda emphasised the dual necessity of the project, stating it is “a necessary project, not only because of the deterioration of the asphalt and the road shoulders on this alternative route in and out of Playa Blanca, but also because, once the works have been completed, our main tourist destination will offer a much more welcoming face to residents and visitors alike.”
Mayor Noda highlighted that “in the last month alone, we have put out to tender projects totalling 7.1 million euros, making us the institution with the greatest investment capacity in Lanzarote.”
This recent flurry of tenders includes the €3.2 million renovation of Avenida Papagayo, €1.5 million for works on the Uga sports field and its surroundings, and another €1 million for a sports court adjacent to the Uga school. To underscore the council’s financial health, Noda added that in the first half of the year, Yaiza added €22.9 million to its cash surplus, “€12.9 million more than the Cabildo.”
Yaiza Councillor for Public Works, Ángel Lago, explained the project’s priority status. “For us, this is one of the priority projects after the rehabilitation of the road linking Maciot and Femés with Playa Blanca,” Lago said. “We are continuing with the improvement of the road, which carries a high volume of traffic and heavy goods vehicles, and we are carrying out complementary actions to tidy up the whole area.”
