Yaiza Ayuntamiento has announced a major infrastructure project to improve access to the Playa Blanca health centre, publishing a tender for the extension of Calle Azores with a budget of €930,000.

This Tuesday, Yaiza Ayuntamiento initiated the public tender process for the works. The project encompasses the extension of Calle Azores, the road directly in front of the health centre, and includes the construction of new sidewalks, the channelling of a ravine on an adjacent plot, and the installation of new sanitation and public service networks. Companies have until Tuesday, 9 December 2025, to submit their bids for the contract.

The primary objective is to connect Calle Azores with Calle La Gomera, a move designed to regulate both vehicle and pedestrian traffic around the health centre. This development is considered essential in light of the of the new Playa Blanca sports centre and the planned renovation and expansion of the health centre itself. The Canary Islands Government’s Department of Health will undertake the health centre expansion on land provided by Yaiza Ayuntamiento.

Ángel Lago, Yaiza’s Councilor for Public Works, elaborated on the wider plan, stating that, “with the intervention on Calle Azores, we will also develop Calle La Gomera and propose a connection with Avenida Faro Pechiguera, the latter pending inclusion in the new General Plan to be implemented at a later date.”

Further Investment in Local Facilities

In a separate announcement, Mayor Óscar Noda confirmed another significant investment for the community. He informed residents that the council “has just awarded a contract worth €1.4 million for improvement works on the terrero de lucha, which has 300 parking spaces.”

This project, awarded to the company Horinsa, also includes the installation of new public lighting, accessibility improvements, and the creation of dedicated pedestrian routes. The contract is scheduled to be formally signed on 18 November.

Mayor Noda concluded by emphasising the council’s commitment to public investment, saying, “Yaiza has financial muscle and we invest in welfare initiatives for our residents. Here, it is the projects that speak for themselves.”
