Yaiza Ayuntamiento has announced a major new project for Playa Blanca, publishing the tender for the expansion and equipping of the San Marcial del Rubicón sports centre. The base budget for the works is set at €1.3 million.
Under the leadership of Mayor Óscar Noda, they plan to refurbish the adjacent plot to create a new 2,500-square-metre recreational area for public use. The project will include a multipurpose sand court for volleyball and handball, outdoor exercise equipment, a shaded recreation area, a kiosk, and improved lighting, all designed to be fully accessible.
Noda contextualised the project within the Ayuntamiento’s broader investment drive, stating, “we currently have 14 tenders underway for works and services worth €23 million, which gives an idea of Yaiza’s investment muscle with projects that improve the quality of life of our residents.”
Companies interested in undertaking the project have until Friday, 23 January 2026, to submit their bids.
Ángel Lago, Yaiza’s Councillor for Sports and Public Works, emphasised the social and aesthetic value of the development. “This highlights the importance of continuing to develop meeting places for the use and enjoyment of the population,” Lago said. “It is not only for the essential purpose of providing more outdoor spaces for healthy activities, but also because these actions help to beautify the environment, in this case, the urban residential area of San Marcial del Rubicón and Las Coloradas.”
The new expansion will build upon the existing facility, which itself was a regeneration project. The council transformed an abandoned sports field to inaugurate the current San Marcial del Rubicón sports centre in April 2023, which features a multipurpose court, bleachers, calisthenics machines, bathrooms, and perimeter fencing. The latest initiative will see services extended onto a triangular plot located directly north of the current facility.
