A worker died yesterday at the glass recycling zone of the island’s refuse depot at Zonzamas.
The 41-year-old man employed by the Ascan company was operating a lorry, which entered the glass recycling area between 5.30 and 6 pm yesterday. When firemen arrived to try and locate the worker, local police officers informed them that the lorry had been found with its engine running, the dump box raised and a remote control on the floor.
Using an excavator, the firemen found the body of the victim beneath a heap of glass. Canarian Health Service paramedics confirmed his death.
A full enquiry will be held into the death.
