Burglars broke into the San Bartolomé atelier of wedding dress designer Oswaldo Machín on Sunday morning, but were scared off by a neighbour before they could steal anything.
The thieves appear to have tried to prise the door open before finally forcing it open with a heavy blow. They went straight to the counter and threw a computer to the floor, but Machín’s sister, who lives next to the shop, heard the noise and started shouting, forcing the burglars to flee empty handed.
Oswaldo, who is currently in Madrid presenting his new selection, treated the break-in with dry humour on Facebook, saying “San Bartolomé is not Las Vegas. We don’t do last-minute weddings. They came to see us at unseasonable hours and had to leave empty-handed.”
