Unión Deportiva Lanzarote have won all of their five home matches in RFEF 3 (fifth tier) this season at their stadium Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife and this has propelled them up the league table, writes Ian Lane.

Despite this 5-star home record and being league leaders for the past five weeks Lanzarote relinquished top spot on Saturday 8th November following their second away defeat (0-2) of the season to UD Villa Santa Brígida who themselves have won all five of their home matches.

This has been one of the most open leagues in recent history. After 10 matches there is no side that has not stared at defeat on at least two occasions and only five points separate the top seven teams. Lanzarote have slipped to second spot trailing La Palma side CD Átletico Paso by two points.

On the 19th October Lanzarote wore their pink third kit as a sign of solidarity for the fight against breast cancer and strolled to a 5-0 win versus lowly UD Telde.

The following Saturday was the first derby of the season versus CD U.S. Yaiza and what a match it proved to be. Lanzarote had a dreadful first half and went into the break 2-0 down. Goals from Nami and Moha levelled matters.

Deep into injury time the home side thought they had won it with a goal in the 95th minute but two minutes later a superb bit of play by substitute Junior earned Lanzarote a point in a 3-3 draw. The 20-year-old was beaming at the end of the match and I doubt he will ever forget his first goal for the Rojillos.

The following week was as equally as dramatic as Lanzarote headed into added on time with the score at one apiece versus CF San Mateo. Out of nowhere striker Nami hit a powerful strike from 25 yards with plenty of dip that nestled into the top corner to win the match 2-1.

During the festive period Spanish football takes a mini break, however Lanzarote do have two consecutive home matches. If you wish to attend a match just turn up pay on the door (details below).

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at UD Lanzarote.
