It’s not just Leeds and Southampton fans who are facing a nerve-shredding weekend. Two of Lanzarote’s high-flying football teams also face important play-off matches this weekend after excellent seasons in the Tercera División.

The Rojillos of UD Lanzarote will face off against Panderia Pulido de San Mateo at the Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife tomorrow (Sunday 26th) at 11.30 am. Lanzarote drew 1-1 with the Gran Canarian side in ther first leg and are hoping that home advantage will see them through to the next round. As usual, Ian Lane’s website and Lanzarote Football Club FB page will tell you all you need to know about getting to the match.

Union Sur Yaiza will face UD Las Palmas Atlético at their home stadium at 5pm today, defending a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Gran Canaria. Tickets are €8

The winners of both these elimination matches will go on to face each other – which, depending on this weekend’s results, could potentially be the most important local derby matches ever played on Lanzarote. The winner faces a further two-leg play-off against a mainland team, and the chance of promotion to Spain’s second tier.

Both matches are expected to be well-attended, and supporters are urged to arrive early.
