Two new buses were presented in Arrecife on Thursday.
The vehicles are part of a Cabildo plan to renew the island’s bus fleet with 12 new vehicles will be used to increase capacity on the three most-used interurban routes on the island.
Those routes are the 3 (Costa Teguise – Puerto del Carmen); the 60 (Arrecife – Playa Blanca) and 161 (Airport- Puerto del Carmen – Playa Blanca).
The two buses complement the five vehicles that were presented in May, and the Cabildo hopes to have installed a further five buses by the end of the year.
Cabildo Councillor Marcos Bergaz, who presented the buses alongside Esther Cabrera, of Arrecife Bus, revealed that 2.869.436 passengers had used the island’s buses this year, a slightly higher figure than in 2019, the last normal year before the pandemic.
Current indications are that the island will have transported a record number of bus passengers by the end of the year.
