Jameos del Agua was the host venue for this year’s Qué Bueno Canarias Awards, a culinary event which awards only the best Canarian restaurants in 10 unique categories.
Each year a number of restaurants & culinary professionals from all of the islands are nominated for a selection of categories.
This year’s awards were held at the Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote.
At the event the Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, stated “Lanzarote has gone from being a traditional tourist destination to become an international enogastronomic reference. Today we can say that Lanzarote has become the centre of gastronomy in Macaronesia. Lanzarote and La Graciosa are no longer just a tourist destination: we are a gastronomic destination of excellence. Here, the landscape is not only contemplated but also savoured.”
“The success of our gastronomy would not be possible without the exceptional quality of our products. Consuming and using local products in our kitchens is a way of protecting our landscape, strengthening our economy and ensuring that our gastronomy continues to grow in a sustainable manner. I encourage you to continue using and betting on our zero-kilometre products: the exquisite carabineros in La Santa, our artisanal cheeses, our volcanic broths, the tasty jams…. Each of these products is not just an ingredient, it is part of our history and our future”.
Director of Lanzarote’s CACT centres, Ángel Vázquez, added “We are to be congratulated. The gastronomy of the Centres has evolved to become a true reference on the island. We have opted for the local product, for the professionalization of our teams and for innovation without losing our roots. The result is that today we can proudly say that in the Centres we eat well, with identity and quality.”
“This event not only rewards culinary excellence but also demonstrates Lanzarote’s ability to host great gastronomic events. The Centres have shown that they can be the perfect setting to showcase the gastronomy and talent of our islands.”
