The Canarian wine and cheese sectors are most likely to be affected by the global tariffs introduced by Donald Trump yesterday, according to the Canarian Government. Canarian exporters will be hit by a 20% tariff that Trump imposed on all imports from the European Union.

Manuel Domínguez, the Canarian economy minister, said yesterday that the Canaries exported €33.6 million worth of goods to the USA in 2024, three million Euros less than the year before.

While the USA is not one the Canaries’ principal markets, Dominguéz said that wine and cheese had started to experience growing demand in the US, and this market was likely to be affected by the tariffs.

The minister admitted that he was more worried about inflation that may result from the tariffs and called for Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to call a meeting with all the regional leaders to address the issue.
