The average daily amount of money spent by tourists to Lanzarote in the second quarter (April to June) rose from €151.20 last spring to €162.90 this year.
However, almost all of this increase was accounted for by the price of flights, which has risen from €38 to €46 over the year. Otherwise, spending has changed little, with outlay on accommodation rising from €69.10 per night to €70. Similar small increases were registered in spending on local transport, food and leisure activities.
Meanwhile, the amount spent on general shopping remained the same, at just €4.50 a day.
The statistics, compiled by the Canarian Institute of Statistics, are based on surveys conducted on sample groups of tourists at the airport. The figures are not adjusted for inflation.
