Entry to the Fire Mountains at Timanfaya National Park will be restricted to online bookings only, in an attempt to tackle the queues that have become a severe problem in the area.
Online entry to the Fire Mountains will be organised by time slots, and openly be available online – effectively meaning that entry must be reserved and that it will not be possible to turn up at the centre and pay at the ticket office. This will allow better management of the 160 parking places on the Islote de Hilario.
Lanzarote’s councillor for tourism, Ángel Vásquez, announced the changes last week and claims they have the blessing of the César Manrique Foundation.
