Tías has called on the Canarian Government to undertake a study to ascertain whether the municipality is a “stressed zone” in terms of housing.
A council meeting approved the motion yesterday, and the regional government will be requested to report on “the price of property, rents and mortgage payments over the last five years , and whether rents account for more than 30% of average income”.
The 30% figure is one of the factors that defines a stressed zone. If an area is officially declared as stressed, it may then introduce measures such as tax rebates and incentives for long-term residential rentals.
