Tías Ayuntamiento have installed 97 brown bins for organic waste in Puerto del Carmen.
Last month Mayor José Juan Cruz stated that “Our future depends on us correctly separating our waste”, and that “recycling properly will mean less rubbish ending up in the landfill.”
This week Tías Ayuntamiento have announced that 97 brown bins have been installed in areas near hotels and holiday villa locations, as well as other areas that produce a large amount of bio-waste.
Only domestic bio-waste should be deposited in the brown bins: fruits and vegetables, meat and fish waste, eggs, shellfish and nut shells, other food waste, coffee and tea grounds, cork stoppers (without the addition of plastic or other materials), matches and sawdust, soiled kitchen paper, used paper napkins and small pruning and gardening waste.
From now on organic waste should be deposited in the brown garbage in a compostable bag to ensure hygiene and it is important not to dispose of unsuitable waste (plastics, bottles, light packaging, cardboard) so as not to hinder its subsequent treatment and recycling.
