On 12th October 1966, the first guest signed into the newly-built Fariones Hotel, marking the beginning of a new age of tourism in Puerto del Carmen and Lanzarote.

Yesterday, Tías Ayuntamiento presented a draught plan of celebrations that will take place to mark the 60th anniversary of tourism in the island’s biggest resort to the Canarian Government and requested funds for the occasion.

The draught agenda includes more than 30 cultural, tourism, and social activities, with an official presentation on International Tourism Day 2025, historical talks, a “sustainable fashion show”, food and music festivals, and a big closing concert in October 2026.

Infrastructure projects linked to the 60th anniversary were also presented, including the inauguration of the Ethnographic Interpretation Centre and the new Tourism HQ.
