Teguise has dug a ditch which it claims will divert rainwater from vulnerable areas that were affected by last month’s flash floods.

The ditch stretches a kilometre from the Hotel Beatriz to the Los Ancones path. The council has also pledged to renovate this path, which was affected by debris and potholes, and to clean up the Barranco del Hurón, which channels much of the run-off from higher ground to Teguise.

The president of the Lanzarote Tourist Federation and Asolan, Susana Pérez, requested action from Teguise last week saying, “With climate change, flooding will come, and our infrastructure must be prepared for it.”
