Puerto del Carmen’s carnival parade took place in front of thousands of onlookers yesterday evening, with fine weather, a terrific atmosphere and no serious incidents.
Three years ago, Puerto del Carmen’s was the last carnival parade to take place on the island before the lockdown. The event went well, after Arrecife’s earlier parade that week had been in a thick calima, but the resort would not see a similar parade until yesterday.
While most parades on the island begin at 6, Puerto del Carmen’s earlier 5pm start allows the sun to shine on the parade, and the shimmering, glittering costumes and the beautiful backdrop of the sea make it perhaps the most beautiful of the island’s carnival processions.
Celebrations will continue today, with a children’s parade from C/Teide to the old Town Harbour at 11 am. This will be followed by a pirates of the Caribbean show at 11.30, and the Daytime Carnival will begin at 1pm, with a performance by a tribute act to merengue star Jean Luís Guerra.
