Last Friday, Arrecife Local Police evicted squatters in a house on Calle Coronel Bens after reports from neighbours.
The event took place last Friday night, when Arrecife Local Police were alerted to the squatters’ presence by neighbours who reported that four people were trying to force their way into an abandoned building on Calle Coronel Bens, near the Instituto Agustín Espinosa school.
It has been confirmed that the four involved in the attempted break in had been evicted from another property on Calle La Inés that same day, after neighbours had reported they felt unsafe with their presence.
Arrecife’s Local Police have carried out a number of evictions of squatters in recent months, in the areas of La Destila, La Vega, and Argana Alta, which are known for frequent activity from squatters.
On Facebook, Arrecife Mayor, Yonathan de León, wrote “Tonight we have prevented a squatting of this house on Calle Coronel Bens. The alert of the neighbours allowed the local police of Arrecife to intervene quickly and stop this squatting.”
“The Local Police force is working to make Arrecife a safe capital, and where squatters do not ‘take refuge’ in the permissive laws of the Government to invade private property, generating with their squatting a climate of ‘insecurity and violence’ to the neighbours of the adjoining houses.”
