Tías Council has set aside 300,000 square metres of land on the ringroad near Rancho Texas for the construction of sporting facilities and an auditorium.
Speaking to Lancelot radio, Mayor José Juan Cruz said that “Once our modernization plan is approved, we’ll have 300,000 square metres available for first class sporting facilities for residents and tourists. There’ll also be an open-air auditorium.”.
On the separate issue of tourist saturation, Cruz claimed that the island’s most popular tourist resort had not exceeded the limits established in the 1991 island plan that limited overdevelopment.
“In 1991 there were 31,115 beds for tourists in Tías. Today, 30 years later, there are 32,515”, said Cruz.
