Arrecife closed its town beach, Playa Reducto, to bathers yesterday after detecting what appeared to be sewage entering the sea at Punta de los Camellos, the headland to the south-west of the beach. Arrecife Ayuntamiento has denounced the pollution and demanded that Canal Gestión and the Lanzarote Water Consortium take immediate action to stop the discharge and prevent further incidents.
In Playa Blanca, the council also closed Playa Flamingo after Public Health inspectors detected “residual bacteria above the recommended levels.” Citizens have been asked to respect the barriers and the red flag until further tests confirm water safety.
We have also been contacted by a reader who informed us that half of Playa de los Pocillos in Puerto del Carmen was closed off yesterday after tests revealed bacteria and e Coli. This has not yet been confirmed officially.
