Another tourist has been evacuated from the Montaña Roja in Playa Blanca after falling and fracturing her ankle.
The 72-year-old Irishwoman was attended by the Canarian Emergency Services after the incident was reported at 12.30 pm. As they were unable to carry her down the mountainside, assistance from the fire service was requested.
The woman was then taken to an ambulance and transported to the Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife.
It is at least the third such rescue to take place on the Montaña Roja this year. The picturesque volcano with its circular crater has become an increasingly popular short hike for holidaymakers in Playa Blanca.
